Individual counselling for bachelor's and master's degree students

For bachelor’s and master’s students, we primarily offer small-group sessions. Many students benefit from meeting other students. At the same time, this allows the study psychologists’ resources to be available to a larger number of students. Individual counselling with a study psychologist is therefore offered only to a limited extent. When possible, we add new appointment times to the booking system on Thursdays between 9:00 and 11:00. You may book an appointment with any study psychologist who has availability. However, bachelor’s and master’s students cannot book time slots reserved for doctoral researchers.

With a study psychologist, you can discuss topics that are also covered in the study psychologists’ Support for Studies materials - have a look! The aim of individual counselling is to help make your studies more meaningful, support smoother progress in your studies, and increase your self-understanding. During the counselling process, we work together to examine your actions, thoughts, experiences, and emotions. During and between appointments, new approaches may be tried out and skills practised. Study psychologists are bound by confidentiality and will not disclose information about a student to third parties unless otherwise explicitly agreed.

The number of counselling sessions is 1–5, and the exact number is always agreed upon together with the student. Each counselling session lasts 45–60 minutes. Study psychologists primarily offer in-person counselling. For justified reasons, in-person counselling may be replaced with remote counselling. You may request remote meetings by emailing the study psychologist with whom you have booked an appointment.

If you need to cancel a booked appointment, please do so as early as possible either via the booking system or by sending a text message directly to the study psychologist. You can find the study psychologists’ contact details in the staff directory. An appointment cancelled in advance can be used at a later time. An appointment that is not cancelled will be counted as a used counselling session.

Individual counselling for doctoral researchers

Individual counselling is primarily aimed at doctoral researchers who are funded by a grant or other external sources. If you are employed by the university, you should primarily seek services from occupational health. In Flamma you can find more information about occupational health services.

A study psychologist can offer an external perspective outside your doctoral programme, for example on the following challenges related to doctoral studies:

  • stress
  • motivation issues
  • procrastination
  • balancing studies with other aspects of life
  • challenges related to supervision of the dissertation

Book an individual counselling session via the booking system. Make sure to select a time slot reserved for doctoral researchers from the dropdown menu. New appointment times are added to the booking system on Thursdays.

Study psychologists primarily offer in-person counselling. If necessary, you may request remote counselling when booking by sending an email to the study psychologist with whom you are making an appointment. You can find the study psychologists’ contact details in the staff directory.
