Did you write a top-notch Bachelor’s thesis? Take part in the Global Undergraduate Awards – you could win a trip to Ireland!
(The bulletin was updated on 22 May 2026: public availability of the bachelor’s thesis during the evaluation period and a new application deadline: see paragraph "Who can participate?")
The Global Undergraduate Awards is an international programme that highlights outstanding essays, theses and projects at undergraduate level from all fields of science.
The aim of the competition is to:
- highlight the outstanding achievements of final year and second year undergraduate students,
- offer an opportunity for networking, and
- showcase their skills globally.
The winners will be offered a trip to the three-day Global Undergraduate Summit held in Dublin in November. The winning entries will be published in the Undergraduate Library database, which is open to all. There is no cash prize.
Our students have excelled in the competition during the past couple of years. If you wish, visit our website to read previous winners' thoughts on taking part in the competition:
- Bachelor’s theses by Elina Kivari, Sanna Antinluoma and Martina Stankoska among the best in Europe (31.10.2025)
- Mikko Seppälä wrote his bachelor’s thesis as a summer job – and won an international award (4.11.2024)
- Netta Karjalainen wrote an internationally acclaimed bachelor’s thesis (9.11.2023)
Who can participate?
To participate in the competition:
- You are in your final or penultimate year of undergraduate study or have graduated as an undergraduate student in the last year.
- You have achieved the highest possible grade of 5/5 in your written assignment (thesis, comprehensive essay or project) in your bachelor's programme.
Please note that the programme also has set rules for example on the length and language of the submitted work – check instructions in good time before the deadline and be prepared to translate & downsize your work if needed.
Entries participating in the competition must not be publicly available online during the evaluation period (June–September). If your bachelor's thesis is currently publicly available and you decide to participate in the competition, please ask the university’s digital repository (helda@helsinki.fi) to remove your thesis from online access from mid-June until the end of September.
The final deadline for submission for this year’s competition is 15 June 2026 (deadline has been extended by one week from the original deadline).
